Every day, Cheese In a Box delivers (dairy) products containing many valuable nutrients to people throughout the Netherlands. At Cheese In a Box, we feel responsible for your data and we believe it is very important to handle our service in a transparent, personal and reliable manner. We warmly invite you to familiarise yourself with our Privacy Policy.

1. When does the Privacy Policy apply?

The Privacy Policy applies to all personal data collected by Cheese In a Box in relation to our online services/website. This Privacy Policy provides insight into what information we collect and how we protect this information when you use our website or social media.

Our online services may contain links to other websites. Although we check these websites carefully, we cannot accept responsibility for the handling of personal information by these websites. This Privacy Policy does not apply to websites, apps or social media of third parties that are not directly or indirectly managed by Cheese In a Box.

2. How do we handle the privacy of children?

We consider it very important to protect the privacy of children. That is why we will never knowingly collect personal information from children without the explicit consent of their parents. We ask children under the age of 16 who use our online service in any way whatsoever not to provide personal information without the consent of a parent or guardian.
We may set age restrictions for participation in promotional campaigns. These restrictions will be stated in the terms and conditions of these activities/campaigns. We may ask for your personal information, such as your date of birth, in order to verify and enforce the aforementioned age restrictions.

3. How do we use your personal information?

Your personal information may be used for various purposes, depending on the online service you use. We may keep you informed of the latest products, events and other promotional purposes. From time to time we organise promotions and ‘product give-aways’. We may also use your personal information to help us respond to questions you have asked by telephone, via the web form or by email. In addition, the information may be used to better understand our customers and to improve our future products and online services.

  • a. Newsletters and information material
    You can subscribe to the newsletter of Cheese In a Box or ask us to send you information/promotional material. Your personal information will be used to provide you with information about the products and services of Cheese In a Box after you subscribe. If you purchase products from Cheese In a Box and provide personal information for this purpose, we may also inform you about other Cheese In a Box products.
    What kind of information do we use for this purpose?
    Cheese In a Box collects the information required to send newsletters and information/promotional material. You can also choose to share more information with us, such as your age or profession.
    How long do we keep this data?
    If you no longer wish to receive our newsletters or other cheese-related information from us, you can always unsubscribe via the ‘opt-out’/’unsubscribe’ button at the bottom of the email or by writing to us directly with the request to no longer receive information. Personal data collected up to that point will be deleted or archived as soon as we have processed the request.

  • b. Promotions and events
    Cheese In a Box regularly organises promotions, campaigns and other (online) events. An example of this is a sample piece of cheese for promotional purposes or discounts.
    What information do we use for this purpose?
    We only collect personal information such as first name, surname, address, email and/or age when you have provided it voluntarily.
    How long do we keep this data?
    Your information is stored for as long as necessary for carrying out the promotion, campaign or event. Retention periods may be communicated separately for each activity, but will not exceed 6 months after the end of the activity.

  • c. Data analysis and personal communication
    What does this purpose involve?
    When you use our Online Services, we collect technical information about your device and your online behaviour. This information is used to improve our Online Services, our products and your browsing experience.

    What information do we use for that purpose?

    We collect information such as:

    • the IP address of your computer, tablet or smartphone
    • information about the operating system of your device
    • the internet browser you use
    • the parts of the Website or App that you visit or use
    • the duration of a visit/session
    • the products you select or buy in our webshops
    • our advertisements that you view online
    • location data, but only when your (mobile) device allows this.

This information is collected using cookies and similar techniques. Cheese In a Box also uses third-party technologies for this. The information may therefore also be accessible to third parties.

3a. Newsletter opt-in during checkout

If you place an order and tick the option "keep me posted on new cheeses, recipes and offers" (this option is ticked by default), we add your email address to our mailing list for occasional updates about new cheeses, recipes and offers. We do not send you a confirmation email in advance (single opt-in). You can unsubscribe directly in every email via the unsubscribe link at the bottom. If you have previously unsubscribed, we respect that: placing an order does not automatically reactivate your subscription.

3b. Shopping basket reminder after abandoned checkout

If you enter your email address during checkout but do not complete your order, we may send you a single friendly reminder about an hour later with a link to your shopping basket. Purpose: to prevent you from losing the cheeses you selected due to an interruption (browser closed, phone battery dead, or something else that needed your attention for a moment). Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); you actively entered your email address in a purchase process and we limit the use exclusively to this one reminder concerning this specific shopping basket. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link at the bottom of the email (List-Unsubscribe). Retention period: a maximum of 30 days after the last activity in your shopping basket, after which we automatically delete the shopping basket data.

4. Interactions via social media

We are active on various social media platforms, such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. When you communicate with us on one of these channels (for example by posting a comment, uploading media or sending a direct/personal message) or by becoming a subscriber or follower, we may receive personal data about you as a user, such as your name, profile picture, place of residence, email address or gender.

What is the purpose of this?

Via social media you can post photos, videos and comments. We are active on social media because we believe that your comments, experiences, reviews and other information can improve our products and services. We use our social media presence to keep you informed about products, promotions and other activities.

5. E-commerce

What is the purpose of this?

We offer you products via our webshop. If you decide to make a purchase in our webshop, we need some of your details so that we can register you as a customer and fulfil the order placed. For this purpose, your name, address and telephone number are required.

We never keep this data longer than necessary and will never share it with third parties unless they are part of the delivery process or are otherwise needed for handling the order.

6. How do we protect your information?

We understand that keeping your personal data secure is of great importance. That is why we take technical and organisational measures to ensure that your personal data is always handled properly and cannot be used by third parties. Our systems and services are set up in such a way that you can always use Cheese In a Box safely, without having to worry about anything.

7. Requests for access to, rectification or erasure of data

On request, we can give you insight into what information we hold about you, and we can make changes to it or delete it permanently. You always remain the owner of your own data, which is only fair. Should you, for whatever reason, no longer wish to use Cheese In a Box and want to be removed from our system entirely, we will simply arrange that for you!

8. Changes to the Privacy Policy

The Privacy Policy may be amended, improved or clarified from time to time. Cheese In a Box therefore recommends that you take a look at this page every now and then, so that you always know where you stand. Should major changes take place that affect our services or the way we handle your customer data, we will also inform you of them explicitly by email.
